The Comfort Cap and Pillow ministry typically meets a few times each year in a daylong event to cut and sew hats made from stretch knit fabrics and neck pillows made from cotton flannel. The caps and pillows are donated to hospitals, nursing homes, hospice facilities, infusion centers and to individuals who request a cap or pillow throughout Lorain County and the western part of Cuyahoga County. In 2017 we produced about 150 pillows and 75 caps. We welcome volunteers of all ages and all sewing skill levels. Many of our “regular” volunteers do not even sew! We have day long sewing events in which we cut, stitch, press, stuff, label and package the caps and pillows. We have jobs for sewers and non-sewers! Men, women and teens have volunteered during our production days.
All fabrics, stuffing and thread are provided (through donations) for the event; volunteers just need to bring themselves. If they have a portable sewing machine they are encouraged to bring it along. Volunteers can come to the sewing day for an hour or longer. Whatever time you can give to the ministry is welcome. We serve snacks throughout the day and have a light lunch. Please watch the church bulletin or check out the calendar below in 2018 for our next sewing/production date.
